Cinema Room – Marlow

As part of a wider smart home project in this modern new-build bungalow, we designed and built a fully dedicated cinema room. While the rest of the house focused on simplicity and ease of use, the cinema was about creating a true immersive experience, without compromising comfort or usability.

This was a purpose-built space, carefully designed to deliver performance while remaining inviting and effortless to enjoy.

Designing the Room for Sound First

The foundation of any great cinema is the room itself. For this project, we carried out full acoustic treatment throughout, ensuring the space was optimised for sound performance from the outset.

The room features a combination of fabric-wrapped acoustic panels and wooden acoustic panels, carefully positioned to control reflections, improve clarity, and maintain a balanced sound across all seating positions. This approach not only enhances the audio experience but also creates a visually refined, high-end finish that suits the modern home.

Immersive Dolby Atmos Audio

Audio is delivered through a Sonance Reference 7.4.4 Dolby Atmos system, providing an enveloping soundstage with precise placement and depth. Overhead speakers add height and realism, allowing sound to move naturally around the room for a truly cinematic experience.

The system is powered by Integra’s flagship 8.4 amplifier, delivering 150 watts per channel, alongside 600 watts of dedicated subwoofer amplification. The result is controlled, powerful sound that remains detailed and balanced at all listening levels.

Cinematic Picture Quality

For visuals, we installed an Epson LS12000 4K laser projector, paired with a 121-inch screen. This combination delivers a bright, sharp image with excellent colour accuracy, ideal for both movies and high-quality streaming content.

The setup ensures a true big-screen experience that feels immersive without overwhelming the space.

Personal Movie Collection & Simple Control

To give the client easy access to their personal movie library, we integrated a Zidoo movie player, allowing their collection to be browsed and enjoyed in a clean, intuitive way.

Control of the entire cinema is handled via a Control4 Halo remote, keeping operation simple and consistent with the rest of the home. Despite the complexity behind the scenes, the client can sit down, press a button, and enjoy the experience without technical distractions.

Comfort for Every Viewing Session

To ensure year-round comfort, the cinema includes a dedicated air conditioning solution, providing heating, cooling, and dehumidification. This keeps the room comfortable during long viewing sessions and protects both equipment and finishes over time.

Calibration for the Best Possible Experience

Once installation was complete, we carried out full audio and projector calibration, including Dirac Live room correction. This final step ensures that both sound and picture perform exactly as intended, tailored specifically to the acoustics and layout of the room.
